Custom golf shorts should work during walking, bending and rotation while keeping the silhouette your brand intends. Build the brief around movement and the items wearers actually carry. A front-view photograph does not establish rise, seat shape, pocket depth or waistband behaviour.

Define fit with measurements and use

Specify the base size, waist, rise, hip, thigh, inseam and leg opening, with diagrams for measurement. Explain whether the waistband is fixed, elasticated or partly elasticated. Identify the intended wearing position and fit rather than relying on a label such as slim or regular.

Review standing, sitting, bending and walking on the sample. Check whether the front opening lies flat, pockets gape or the waistband pulls down at the back. Describe the movement that causes an issue so the pattern correction can address the cause.

Select stretch by the finished garment requirement

Request fibre composition, fabric construction, weight, stretch directions and recovery observations. Stretch alone does not ensure a garment keeps its shape. The fabric, pattern and waistband construction must work together. Compare the sample before and after the agreed care process and record any change in fit.

  • Check opacity in lighter colours under movement.
  • Review fabric noise, surface feel and drape against the intended position in the range.
  • Inspect the seat and pocket areas for distortion.
  • Confirm the fabric actually used in the development sample.

Engineer pockets and closures for the programme

Define pocket opening, bag depth, bag material and reinforcement. If carrying a phone, scorecard or small accessories is part of the use case, check those items on a physical sample. Avoid adding a “secure pocket” claim without testing the relevant closure and placement.

Specify zip, button, hook, belt loops and any internal grip feature. Confirm where branding sits and whether it interferes with pocket use or stretch. Include a back view and interior details in the tech pack.

Questions before approving the size range

Can the same inseam be used for every size?

It can be a design choice, but it should be explicit. Review proportions across the intended size range and document the grading rule.

Does fabric stretch allow wider measurement tolerances?

Agree tolerances by measurement point and intended fit. Stretch is not a substitute for a controlled size specification.

Use the measurement tolerance guide and send a golf shorts brief with your fit reference, fabric direction and quantity breakdown.
